Every state allows minors to consent to care relating to STDs.* Some states permit (but do not require) providers to notify your parents of your test results or treatment. Provider practice in this area does vary. We suggest that you call your provider before you go for your test and ask if they will notify a parent of your test results, or of any treatment.

No. At Planned Parenthood, and many other family planning and teen clinics, you can get tested without a parent’s consent or knowledge. They may also have a sliding pay scale which will make it cheaper, or possibly even free, if you can’t afford full price.
